Sad News : Chris Boskoff and Charlie Fowler

Hello Everyone,

Today, I am delivering some very sad news regarding mountaineering.

As many of you know, I have always travelled with a company called, "Mountain Madness", based out of Seattle, Washington. Many of you have heard me refer to Chris (Boskoff) as somewhat of my mentor, with whom I climbed with in Antarctica in Dec 2004. As well, many of you have heard me mention Charlie (Fowler), who guided me on Gasherbrum II, in 2005.

Sadly, "the body of [Charlie Fowler] missing for more than a month has been found on a remote mountain in southwestern China while a second climber [Chris Boskoff] is still missing and presumed dead, a rescue coordinator said Wednesday. ... [Charlie Fowler] was found at the 5,300-meter (17,390-foot) level on Genie Mountain, also known as Genyen Peak, not far from the Sichuan border with Tibet. The mountain is 6,204 meters (20,354 feet) tall." To read the full story, please refer to: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/12/27/china.climbersl.ap/index.html

Chris was an inspirational person to me. She was an exceptional climber, one of the best in the world. She had that special talent of being caring, and yet, being extremely businesslike at the same time. Charlie was a guy who definitely did things his own way, and was not afraid to express his opinions, no matter what impact it might have. These were two very strong, very capable people. They will be missed.

With a heavy heart, Good bye Chris and Charlie.
