One step closer to Kosciuszko!
Hello From Down Under!
Today is our last day in Sydney; tomorrow morning, we fly to Melbourne, and then drive to Jindabyne. We are both looking forward to the climb - and we are highly anticipating the beautiful scenery along the way.
The symposium that we attended in Sydney was fantastic - and, in addition to the excellent (and productive) conference, we were fortunate to visit Bondi Beach, and attend a cruise dinner in the Darling Harbour. The work aspect of this trip has been highly successful, and I can only hope that the climbing portion will be just as wonderful.
Arrived in Oz!
Good'ay, Mate!
I've arrived in Australia - the 7th (and last!) Continent to which I've travelled! It is so beautiful here - the weather is gorgeous and warm - and the people have been amazing. I am very fortunate to have an opportunity to travel here on business. I am travelling with my boss, Andre Dupuis, and on the weekend, we will make an attempt to climb Kosciuszko - the 6th mountain in my quest to achieve the Seven Summits.
We arrived on Sunday, 26 March, at around 1000hrs. Following our check in at the hotel, we dropped our luggage, and began our exploration of Sydney. What a remarkably beautiful city. We strolled along the Darling Harbour walkway, visiting the Greek Festival activities, headed to The Rocks - an historical neighbourhood in Sydney, and eventually made our way to the Sydney Opera House - taking in the wonderful architecture. Throughout the afternoon, we walked to various other places, then slowly made our way back to the hotel. It was an excellent way to spend our first day in Amazing Australia!
Kosciuszko! Here I come!
It looks like things are coming together for the trip to Australia, next week. While there, I hope to climb Mount Kosciuszko, the tallest mountain in Australia! I'm very much looking forward to this wonderful opportunity.
Plans are not too tight for the actual attempt, yet. But right now it looks like I'll be departing from Melbourne. Some reports indicate that it might be a 7-hr drive to Charlotte Pass, the trailhead for the climb. I may stay the night in a nearby town, such as Jindabyne, but other than that, I'm going to wait until I'm in country, and have a feel for how the trip is going. One thing is for sure, I will be attempting to climb the mountain - I just haven't figured out on what day, yet!
Be sure to keep an eye on the blogs for updates, as I'm hoping that I'll be able to update everyone from Down Under!
International Woman's Day - Update
The Meagan McGrath, Adventurer booth at National Defence Headquarters was a huge success! Many thanks to all those who stopped by and asked about the adventure on which I will be partaking in April 2007!
I spoke with many people who, each of whom had various interests: Those with specific questions about the climbing gear on display, and those who were interested about why I would embark on such an adventure. I particularly enjoyed a conversation with one kind woman who shared with me her experience of achieving her lifelong dream!
It was wonderful to share my message with all of you: The possibilities are endless....
It's just a matter of taking those first few (possibly difficult steps) - but the feeling of accomplishment is amazing. I encourage all of you who stopped by the booth (and those who are reading this blog), to seek your dream, and go for it.
Happy International Woman's Day, Everybody!
